“Netra Seva Foundation” (NGO) was started on 1st Nov. 2005 with the objective to serve poor and needy community of the society in the field of Eye Bank & Eye Care Services. Till March 20, foundation has received 2132 corneas. We have helped 506 needy patients requiring cornea implantation.
Cornea should be collected within 6 hours form the death time. This time factor has restricted us to collect cornea in the periphery of 30 kms from our Sangli based hospital. Requirement for collecting cornea is 1) Death Certificate from Doctor 2) Recent blood reports 3) Consent from first degree blood relative.
We have updated facility to preserve doner cornea up to 15 days. Also, quality of the cornea is checked on Specular Microscope. Netra Seva Foundation has put dedicated efforts to bring this advanced model microscope and is first of its kind in Western Maharashtra. Availability of this latest machine has not only helped to check quality of doner cornea but to select suitable patient to implant the cornea.
Netra Seva Foundation is also working in the field of empowerment for awareness regarding eye donation. As part of the programme, we felicitate relatives of donor on 26th January. Well qualified doctors along with trained premedical staff are visiting nearby by rural area to conduct free diagnostic eye camp activities. To achieve the objective, substantial concession is given in surgical cost for needy patients. During free camp activity information regarding eye bank and importance of eye donation is explained to present audience.
We express our gratitude for donations received from our well-wishers. We have notification from government authorities effective from 1st April 2011 to extend benefit of 80G (1961/139(4C)139(4A)) for tax exemption. Mobile No.9623231919 is available round the clock for eye donation activity.
