What is Occuloplasty?

Occuloplasty is a specialized branch of Ophthalmology, which focuses on abnormalities of the structures around the eye. Occuloplasty procedures refer to a large variety of surgical procedures that deal with the orbit (eye socket), eyelids, tear ducts, extra ocular structures, other structures around the eye and the face. These procedures include repair of droopy eyelids, repair of tear duct obstructions, orbital fracture repairs, removal of tumors in and around the eyes.

Occuloplasty procedures frequently have both functional and cosmetic purposes.

For example, Blepharoplasty, a procedure for excessive and droopy eyelid skin, may improve peripheral vision as well as facial beauty and rejuvenation. It aims at improving function, comfort and appearance.

Conditions for Occuloplasty Referral

You need to see an Occuloplasty Specialist if you have any of the following conditions:

Droopy eyelids or eyebrows (Ptosis).
Blepharoplasty (Eyelift).
Eyelids turning in or out (Entropion / Ectropion).
Excessive watering due to tear duct or tear sac problems.
Growths or Tumors (Cancer of Eye).
Excessive blinking or uncontrollable eye closure.
Twitches.
Excessive wrinkles / skin folds around eyes (Cosmesis).
Thyroid imbalance.
Paralysis affecting the face

Loss of eye due to injury or infection wherein artificial eye fitting is needed to improve appearance.

WHAT IS OCULAR IMPLANT?

Points to Remember:

Many times, patient can not realize that he has glaucoma utile it is too late as there are no symptoms. Vision once lost in glaucoma cannot be restored back, but whatever vision has remained can only be preserved. It is must to put drops in the eyes regularly. It is important to check intraocular pressure every 2-3 months. Keep one bottle of drops ready before existing bottle is finished. Keep bottle of medicine with you even during travelling. While visiting doctor for pressure checkup, make sure that you have put the medicine at schedule time. With each other co-operation, patient and doctor can definitely conquer glaucoma.
